Saturday Review 11 – Servant of the People; Billy Graham; Duke Ellington; The Noble Liar; Brand Luther; Searching for Schindler; John Owen vol 9; The Fox; Romans 10

This week’s reviews all come under the word ‘inspiring’! TV – Servant of the People – 9/10 This one is an absolute gem!  It’s so weird and quirky – a series about a history teacher in Ukraine who becomes President.  It’s in Russian with subtitles.  And it’s brilliant.  Each episode is only 20 minutes but it’s perceptive, funny and through comedy illustrates the problem with … Continue reading Saturday Review 11 – Servant of the People; Billy Graham; Duke Ellington; The Noble Liar; Brand Luther; Searching for Schindler; John Owen vol 9; The Fox; Romans 10

Saturday Review 10 – Can We Trust the Gospels? Killing Fields, Living Fields; Daily Readings – the Early Church Fathers; Romans 11 – To God’s Glory; Coffee House Shots; The Towering Inferno; The Ghost of Tom Joad

Last week I was not able to do the review – mainly because I was in hospital. This week I have a few books that I have just finished. The Saturday Review (2) – The Scots in China; The Old Man and the Gun; Logic on Fire; Romans 9 – God’s Sovereign Purpose;

TV – The Scots in China This is a short two part series on the Scots in China.  Neil Oliver is a marmite presenter.  You either love or hate him – many people find his voice really grating.  I actually enjoy his style.  The whole programme was intriguing- although it skirted some of the serious issues.  How did the businessmen and media people justify working … Continue reading The Saturday Review (2) – The Scots in China; The Old Man and the Gun; Logic on Fire; Romans 9 – God’s Sovereign Purpose;

The Greatest Doctrine (Romans 8:28); Proverbs 1 and “It is Well With My Soul”

Martyn Lloyd-Jones says that Romans 8:32 contains the highest doctrine that there is.  After preaching on it last Sunday I am inclined to agree.  It is a profound and beautiful teaching – that is absolutely life changing once you get it and believe it.  Many of us were deeply moved and assured by it. You can here the whole service here or just the sermon … Continue reading The Greatest Doctrine (Romans 8:28); Proverbs 1 and “It is Well With My Soul”
