Acts 24-25 may be relevant [As Paul talked about righteousness, self-control and the judgment to come, Felix was afraid and said, “That’s enough for now! You may leave. When I find it convenient, I will send for you.”] . People may see belief in Christ as entrapment or enslavement, so they shy away from committing. Yet Paul’s 3 part outline of the gospel makes sense. Who does not want moral standards? Does anyone not want eternal reunions after death even if a judgement of morals is part of this? The ‘self-control’ can sound suspicious. But self-control leads to real freedom! Self-entrapment (full enslavement) is what we get when we enslave ourselves with greed, lust and a burning desire for unbridled power over others.
