Quantum 222 – The End of Men?

Much is rightly said of the attack on women in today’s world – but there is also an attack on men.  This week we look at some manifestations of this – including Classical Gas, Muddy Waters, Slow Train Coming, Biden and Dylan, Pregnant men, Rishi Sunak, Kemi Badenoch, Manmade Covid, Eminem, Manly Rugby, Scottish and Indian Cricket, Franklin Graham, Elon Musk, Jordan Peterson, and Lecrae.

  1. Hi David
Thanks as ever for latest Wee Flea blog. Re the NE minister’s comment about women, I thought the report being in the Daily Record it would be selective. Hence I include the e-mail I sent him in support and his reply.
    God bless

PS We once met when I had a mission stall at a Solas event at your church in Dundee.

  2. When you follow a false ideology like this, it brings nothing but darkness. It won’t bring relief and light.

That could be said about any ideology rooted in the world. It’s certainly true in cases of poor epistemology, lacklustre ontology, and a failure to pay respect to things that ought to be respected (like biological markers).

But it is also the case that gender dysphoria, or gender identity disorder, or gender incongruence, or whatever you want to call it, is a medically recognised condition. It’s easy enough to go after public targets and assail dubious notions of identity. But that then tends to inform how the church – as little a ‘c’ as can be imagined – broadly approaches everyone experience gender dysphoria. That is, to assume some rejection of divine ordinance, or arbitrariness in our acting in the world, or what have you.

It becomes exhausting to go through a little dance with Christian after Christian about this, that and the other thing. Christians who assume Satanic deception, or the trans person they are looking at is philosophically uncomplicated, uninterested in Jesus, actively rejecting Jesus, or worse. And is it any wonder? The people they look up to only ever talk about the easy targets while bravely respecting grammatical constructs that correspond to truths about the physical world. Bravo.

Because probably if anything more serious were engaged with, the end result might be something like: “we all need Jesus, we all have our struggles…” (and an odd nod to Debbie Hayton?). In confronting a, dare I say, pathetic ideology, the whole of the rest of us are dispensed with.

Those of us who don’t adhere to the ideology, yet only ever hear about it from Christian leaders who otherwise express sympathy and little more. Maybe we receive a pitiful look and a gentle pat on the head for being as confused as we are.

As it stands, it’s a pyrrhic victory, I suppose.

    1. Katja – thanks. I basically agree with you. You are making precisely my point. Gender dysphoria is a medical condition and should be treated as such. The Trans activists approach is entirely different – they take an ideological approach which almost completely does away with male and female as biological. It is the ideology I oppose not the people. I had the first Trans person in my congregation over 30 years ago – and have always been welcoming to those who suffer from gender dysphoria. Fundamentally all are made in the image of God and all need restoration, healing , renewal and forgiveness. Me – as much as anyone else.
