Shot of Love

“That was an inspired song that came to me. I felt like I was just putting down words that were coming from somewhere else, and I just stuck it out.”

In the time of my confession, in the hour of my deepest need
When the pool of tears beneath my feet flood every newborn seed
There’s a dying voice within me reaching out somewhere
Toiling in the danger and in the morals of despair.

I have gone from rags to riches in the sorrow of the night
In the violence of a summer’s dream, in the chill of a wintry light
In the bitter dance of loneliness fading into space
In the broken mirror of innocence on each forgotten face.

I hear the ancient footsteps like the motion of the sea
Sometimes I turn, there’s someone there, other time it’s only me
I am hanging in the balance of the reality of man
Like every sparrow falling, like every grain of sand.

  1. Really enjoyed Quantum 148.
Thanks for not rubbing it in about the demise of the C of S. We all know it is past the point of no return and that there are too many vested interests to admit it. I believe your prayers for us are genuine and wish that we had done more praying and less deck chair rearranging.
Perhaps you have blind sided me by playing Bob Dylan. Like you I love his lyrics, but I would suggest that,
“I met one man who was wounded in love.
I met another man who was wounded in hatred.” (A Hard Rain…..),
is one of the most profound images ever expressed in a song.
Now for the heretical part. Bryan Ferry’s version of A Hard Rain is better than the original.
Dylan’s best song was” Lily, Rosemary and the Jack Of Hearts.”
    Sorry!!!!

  2. A nice story I heard about Dylan : one day he was in London and decided to call on the music producer Dave Stewart, he of Eurythmics fame. He arrived at Dave’s Crouch End address, knocked on the door, and asked if Dave was in. The woman who answered said Dave was out but would be back in 10 minutes, and that Dylan was welcome to wait inside. Now Crouch is a maze of streets which often, not surprisingly contain the words “Crouch End” so it’s not unusual to mix up an address… Which is how Dave the plumber arrived home to find Bob Dylan drinking tea in his front room.
