I just want to point out that about 20 years ago, it was religious conservatives who were cancelling JK Rowling – complaining her books were promoting witchcraft and seeking to stop the movies using church buildings as locations.
Here in the states religious conservatives are also trying to cancel Black Lives Matter, opposing even genuinely peaceful protests, and Joe Biden, despite him actually being a Christian. We have an attempted boycott of Netflix because they showed a controversial French movie about the sexualization of children.
And indeed, in Cornwall we had that guy publicly praying for the Pride March to be cancelled.
Maybe it is unfair of me to say, but religious conservatives seem particularly bad at noticing the beam in their own eye.
“Cancelling people or ideas will inevitably result in injustice anger and abuse… it is a form of intimidation, it is a form of bullying… all the prophets would be cancelled.” I couldn’t agree more.
“The smart way to survive is to go back to being voiceless” – maybe, and it seems certainly wise to engage brain before engaging with keyboard warriors if you want to keep your job and reputation.
“The gospel gives us an opportunity to engage with this with grace”. Yes and if we consider what the enemy intended for evil God uses for good not only this but we can “rise on eagles wings”.
So then it seems that this applies. “Blessed are you when men hate you, and when they exclude you and revile you, and cast out your name as evil, on account of the Son of man!
Rejoice in that day, and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven; for so their fathers did to the prophets” (Lk6: 22,23).
Truth sets you free and love never fails?
Re Cancel Culture , I read in The Scotsman that David Hume , prime mover of that impressive Intellectual Movement , The Scottish Enlightenment, has been cancelled by Edinburgh University’s ever – sagacious students.

This may be an applaud – worthy development for Supernaturalites as DH was rejected by Glasgow University for the unscientific offence of being an Atheist , despite the sponsorship of his illustrious friend ( and Masonic brother ) Adam Smith.
I believe we need to teach how to disagree without being disagreeable and accept that It’s ok to have different opinions. If society could embrace differences as a good thing—we are all a part of God’s rainbow—and we don’t have to think the same—then perhaps we could turn this ugly ship around and direct it into a more peaceful port.
This surveillance mode on social media is shutting down the voiceless and the timid and saying it’s not ok to be different. It’s not ok to be conservative or white or Christian. It’s not ok to have an opinion that doesn’t match mainstream.
I will not apologize for the fact that I have opinions and they may not necessarily reflect the modern social swing.
As a older white woman raised in a sexist culture, I think it’s high time I had a voice. I am tired of being pushed into a corner and told to obey—first as a child by the right wing and now by the left. I don’t want to be right or left—I want to be me.
Disagree with me—I’m fine with it—and I’ll still love you tomorrow.
