Laurence Fox damaged his credibility by criticizing the inclusion of Sikh soldiers in the movie 1917. He felt this inclusion was unnecessary and only there to emphasize and uphold modern day diversity and inclusion. He had to eat humble pie when he was informed that Sikh soldiers did indeed fight alongside British soldiers in WW1. He says that he had not known that!!
Yes this was a deeply stupid and asinine statement. He deserved all the flack he received for that.
Perhaps there is only one race, the human race. Should we think instead in terms of ethic groups, tribes, people groups and nations? If that is the case let’s drop the term racism and instead speak of prejudice and discrimination rather than racism.
Race is a biological fact. When the Govt. of Israel wishes to establish the racial validity of a dubious claim under the Right of Return Law , a DNA test is ordered on the claimant.
Humans are a Species not a Race.

Thanks for your thoughtful podcast – just discovered it and am enjoying it. Just a point of correction (esp. since you called for accuracy and truth to be upheld!) regarding the death of Sir Nicholas Winton. He died in 2015 – but he was truly a real life superhero as you mention!

I think the QT segment on race showed me why our discussions on this topic rarely progress.
1. Some people DO see race and racism everywhere. It’s often rooted in negative experiences they’ve been through around racism, sometimes it’s based on ideology.
2. Many white people are dismissive on ongoing racial issues (and form their opinions on the subject often by either ignoring or dismissing the experiences of people from ethnic minority backgrounds).
These two attitudes prevent sensible, rational and thoughtful discussions about race relations in modern Britain.
The lecturer herself could have brought concrete facts to back up her argument rather than accusing Laurence of “white privilege”. There are numerous articles which appear to show a bias towards Meghan Markle (when compared to Kate Middleton).
Britain IS more tolerant than many European nations around race (and I thank God for that). However, there’s still huge progress to be made. Reading comments sections on online newspapers (esp on articles about race) will show that the UK is FAR less tolerant than Mr Fox would have us believe……
One only has to look at the racist “Happy Brexit Day” poster left in a Norwich tower block telling immigrants to leave the country to challenge Mr Fox’s “lovely, tolerant” view of the UK:

Thankfully, some sanity was restored as anti racist protests were staged to challenge this sentiment.
