  1. Am trying to grapple with this image. So the scroll is history and, of course, war and death are part of human history. God has given mankind free will for this time, so that we still deal with death and suffering. So the images of the riders are God allowing this, for a time but isn’t the author of the war and death? Or, is it that these riders symbolise God’s justice. There is something curiously positive in these images – the crown, their power? I hope that makes sense. It makes me think of Pharoah and his armies chasing down the Israelites and the cloud moving to protect them.
