As regular readers of this blog will be aware I have been commenting on and predicting the collapse of the Church of Scotland for a couple of decades. This video from Ready to Harvest is accurate and fair – and not just because it quotes extensively from yours truly – it shows just how desperate things have become. As we move towards General Assembly season – we will hear some fanciful scenarios….and talk about how we are ‘seizing the opportunity’ and ‘on the cusp of transformation and revival’ (Rev David Cameron – convenor of the Assembly of Trustees). It’s the same nonsense we have heard every year for the past 20 years. The C of S ministers have fiddled while Rome burned…. It is utterly heartbreaking. Whilst I am thankful that there are other churches which are picking up some of the pieces – I cannot but weep at the demise of the Kirk – largely destroyed from within…

As a middle life convert, from atheist-agnostic scepticism, this type of report once used to sadden me. Now I welcome it! Going-‘Woke’-might include: excluding men, ignoring qualifications and embracing all sorts of craziness. I have lost count of the number of whacky situations where ordinary untrendy men were shunned as lay preachers. The contempt for written or spoken scholarship (especially on apologetics) is stunning. A jailhouse convert’s mafia experience counts for more than someone who has done decade of serious study with a view to ministry in retirement years. In accountancy-nursing-industry etc…qualifications count. But in woke cults being unqualified trumps serious credentials. One very senior journalist sought opportunities to pursue later life ministry. But they just had multiple doors slammed in their face. There is a lot of that around where woke denominations chase away capable people: especially older men. And it’s often done with brutally malevolent sadism and sarcasm. It stuns me how lots of mainstream Church attenders are unfamiliar with Isaiah 53! What do they talk about at ‘WW [Woke Worship]’?!?!?
