ABC Radio National – God Forbid – Religious Discrimination…

This week I recorded a programme with the ABC on Radio National – ‘God Forbid’ on the subject of Religious Discrimination.  As well as the presenter – James Carleton,  my co-panellists were Chris Bedding, Anglican Priest and Executive Officer of the Faith Workers Alliance, and Dr Renae Barker, a lawyer and senior lecturer in law at UWA.  I found their contributions informative and fascinating….although I took a somewhat different line!   The show was edited – but I think fairly….as far as I can remember…Let me know what you think! Click the link to listen..Good to be back on the ABC – though as James said on the show..- some people will be shaking their heads!

  1. Thank you very much, David. Have just listened through to this broadcast, and appreciated your cogency, and ability to express Christ-centred concerns in a persuasive and gracious way. You have been gifted by God to articulate Christian truth in the public square, – courageously and faithfully, – a unique gift.

  2. Chris Bedding at the last moment suggested that the debate was about Christians and the Gay agenda . I thought this not just subtle , but nasty, in what was up until then an amicable free flowing debate on Religious freedoms in Australia . You spoke well David , and brought the effects of Christian discrimination back on track when the subject was beginning to fade.

  3. Gylen, can you please explain how you got from what Chris Bedding said to the epithet “nasty”? Or, David, do you agree with that characterisation?

    1. Bruce, Perhaps “nasty” was the wrong word to use in what was a rapid and very in depth , broadly amicable discussion on what is a very hot topic in Christendom. The panel as a whole were sympathetic to religious intolerance and discrimination, and had no little sympathy for discussions the Government had to handle. It appeared more discussion than debate.

All western governments are now under pressure to bow to minorities who are seeking to attack biblical values upheld by Christians. Over all I thought Chris Bedding spoke very well , and taking into consideration that the debate was edited , coming at the end , the hint of Gay agenda’s v the Church appeared to me not to be what the discussion was about as a whole .
