David,
this is a victory song based on Colossians 1:3-8; 29-2:3
We have heard the gospel story
and give thanks to God on high.
We have have faith that moves the mountain,
drains the seas and touches sky.
We have love for one another
in the bond in which we pray.
We have hope laid up in heaven,
and on earth, the victory.
We have learned from those who taught us;
who proclaimed God’s risen Son.
In the story of their striving,
we can see what God has done.
Here the Word of God is fruitful:
healing land; restoring youth;
bringing knowledge of salvation;
and the grace of God in truth.
We can grasp how great the conflict
of the missionary trials;
and, at last, in turn, take courage
in the grace of travelled miles;
till, attaining to the riches
of the path the saints have trod
we shall know, with full assurance,
all the mystery of God.
A great intro this morning, David. What you say about the modern church being influenced by ‘the spirit of this age’ is so true. It is very easy to become despondent and disillusioned by all the woke ideology that has crept into the institutionalised church, but these letters remind us that this is not an unknown phenomena! I would still argue though that what we are witnessing today represents a wide spread apostasy and a turning away from God’s word and his precepts.
Thanks very much for the study.We just finished a Bible study in Phillipians and Colossians.God bless you both ππ
