Last Sunday was Easter and we had a good day! I was delighted to be able to preach again after four weeks….we continued looking at Romans. In the evening Sinclair looked at the resurrection walk.

Ministers Monday Message
Yesterday I quoted from Epictetus, the first Century Stoic philosopher – “If I were a nightingale, I would do what is proper to a nightingale, and if I were a swan, I would do what is proper to a swan. In fact I am logikos (a rational being), so I must praise God”. If I amend that slightly to read ‘in fact I am a preacher, so I must preach Christ’, you will understand. After several weeks recuperating it was a pure joy and privilege to be preaching amongst you yesterday – made it even more so by the fact that is was Easter Sunday. We had a good morning of praise, prayer and preaching….and, although, I was not able to be there in the evening, I expect that the same was true then.
It was particularly poignant to have a visitor from Sri Lanka with us yesterday, on a day when almost 300 were killed in attacks on three churches and hotels. It is a now all too familiar story that each Easter we hear of more churches being attacked. We are in the blessed position of not having to think about whether we will return from worship or not – but we must not forget the many brothers and sisters for whom that is not the case.
I have also been thinking a great deal about the resurrection – that is our resurrection in the light of Christ’s. Many of you will have empty places in your homes and hearts because of those who have died. I pray that whatever you face this week you will experience something of the joy, keeping and peace of the Risen Christ.
