The UK Parliament’s vote for abortion up to birth is absolute evil – CT

This is my response to last nights Abortion vote in the UK parliament – you can read the original on Christian Today here....(feel free to share if it expresses your view)…

It is one of those articles that you write – and come back to several hours later thinking that perhaps you need to tone things down.  But on re-reading I would not change one word!

The UK Parliament’s vote for abortion up to birth is absolute evil

At first I did not take it seriously. I had heard the news that a couple of amendments to the Crime and Policing bill were coming to the UK Parliament to in effect allow abortion on demand up to birth. And I assumed that this was the work of the radical extremists who think that any woman should be allowed to kill her own child up to birth. I assumed that such an extreme measure would be overwhelmingly rejected. But I was wrong – and then some.

This week MPs voted by 379 to 137 for an amendment tabled by Labour MP Tonia Antoniazzi which in effect permits abortion on demand up to full term i.e. up to the moment of and even during birth.

Although on paper abortion is still not legal, no one will be prosecuted for taking the life of their own baby – at any stage.  In theory any medical professional who assists a woman in having such an abortion will be liable to prosecution – although it is almost impossible to imagine any situation in which criminal proceedings will be undertaken.

There were actually three amendments before parliament. One from Stella Creasey, another Labour MP, who wanted to abandon all abortion laws under the 1861 Offences Against the Person Act and enshrine abortion as a human right. This was actually backed by 108 MPs but even the British Pregnancy Advisory Service (BPAS) were opposed to it. So, it was withdrawn.

But note that this was because BPAS said this was not the best way to achieve “generational change”. In other words, let’s do this one salami slice at a time. It is inevitable that this too will come. And it won’t stop there. After all, using the same logic we could argue that killing an unwanted baby one day out of the womb is also healthcare and part of ‘reproductive health care’.

I fear there will soon come a day when MPs are tweeting about a new infanticide act (doubtless renamed something more palatable like ‘the infant care act’) with a blurb like: “No one should ever face prosecution for killing their one-week-old baby. This would be a vital step for women’s rights and reproductive justice.”

A third amendment from the Conservative Shadow Health Minister, Dr Caroline Johnson, was trying to limit the harm of abortion through the pills by post service by reinstating the requirement that a pregnant woman have an in-person medical consultation before getting an abortion. This was rejected by 397 to 117.

Remember the days when we were told abortions needed to be legal in order to prevent backstreet abortions and to ensure the mother got proper medical care? That was apparently just an excuse, because now MPs think a woman should be able to have an abortion in her own home without any medical care or assessment.

Why has this happened? The big picture is that the UK is in sharp decline, and our politicians represent that decline. They lack any significant moral compass or intellectual capacity to seriously think through these things. Consider this – the biggest change in abortion law for 60 years and they took 46 minutes to ‘debate’ it.  These are people with the attention span of a gnat.  Governed entirely by soundbites, emotive stories and the morality of a bot, it is little wonder that they have convinced themselves that killing viable babies in the womb is all about ‘healthcare’ and ‘reproductive rights’. They are similar to the politicians who during the anti-slavery debate argued that slavery was about ‘economic rights’.

The stupidity is breathtaking. I saw the commentator Paul Mason tweet that this Bill would be a blow for misogynists, clearly oblivious to the fact that the Bill now allows sex-selective abortion. Is there anything more misogynistic than killing a baby girl just because she is a girl?

The dishonesty and lies are also astonishing.  For example, Dr Sonia Adesara lied to Julia Hartley-Brewer on her show when she stated “we’re not changing what a woman is allowed to do” when that is precisely what the Bill is doing.

Others have suggested that this is not making abortion legal and therefore nothing has really changed. But they are sophists playing with words in order to justify taking lives. If breaking into my house is not illegal, then you will feel free to break into my house because you are not doing anything illegal when you do so.

Where does this shocking vote leave us? The culture of death in the UK is more deeply engrained than I thought. For people who claim to be humanists we seem to like killing humans a lot.

As regards the Church it should with one voice be standing up and declaring that we will not go down the route of Baal or Molech, sacrificing our children to the idols of the contemporary West. We must speak out with a prophetic voice against this evil and warn, with tears in our eyes, of the judgement to come. One day these MPs will stand before a greater court than the Supreme Court, and a higher judge than the electorate.

Meanwhile let us weep and mourn for today’s post-Christian, pagan Britain. A Britain where you can get sent to jail for a tweet but kill your own baby the day before she is born. A Britain where praying near an abortion centre is illegal but killing a baby up to birth is legal. A Britain where God is mocked, his word abused, and humans destroyed. I can think of no better reaction than that of the Psalmist in Psalm 119:136: “Streams of tears flow from my eyes, for your law is not obeyed.”

This is a photo of a baby 10 minutes out of the womb….30 minutes earlier it would have been legal to kill him – according to the new law MPs have just passed….let that sink in….

  1. And I agree with your every word too. Let’s pray the soon end of this Parliament of Fools. A new day may yet come in our land.

  2. Apparently this outcome was cheered by the Labour majority but as a ‘conscience’ vote they can, like Pilate, wash their hands of any responsibility for the consequences. It makes a mockery of any existing protections as the rights of the woman will override these. With foetal viability in the UK now less than 24 weeks, it is infanticide by any other name. The ‘for profit’ abortion providers such as BPAS will bide their time to ensure it is enshrined as a human right. Reversing the pills by post scheme would have negated the need for any such debate. Similar arguments are being made for assisted suicide, with similar proposals to outsource this ‘treatment’ to private providers. May God in whose image we are made have mercy on them (Galatians 6:7).

  3. It is a sign of the times when a prominent woman, whose credentials are questionable, announces that the most important function of a woman’s reproductive system is NOT reproduction!!!
Small point.. the human race disappears if that function is relegated to the back blocks.
    Embryology anyone!?!?

  4. Sinister to see the UK moving towards a country where assisted suicide is available to all age groups – legislation coming into place for the very young and “terminally” ill. Next it will be the old, homeless, poor, those with psychological and psychiatric problems, then adults and adolescents. Very sad to see the population sleepwalking into this – with large sections seemingly supporting it as well.

  5. “The Labour Party is a moral crusade or it is nothing”. Harold Wilson, recently retweeted by Sir Keir Starmer. And Gordon Brown used to claim he had a “moral compass”, let’s not forget. I wonder which pole it was connected to. Equally worrying is the number of Conservative MPs who went into the lobby with the majority. People like Andrew Mitchell and Laura Trott.
Strange that other European countries like Germany have stuck to a 12-week limit for abortion, except for really exceptional circumstances. Germany may not be a more Christian society but the Germans seem to have avoided the pit of anti-Christian and indeed anti-human rage and nihilism into which the U.K. has sunk.
And without wanting to be too sociological about it I think there’s something else at play here. It seems that aside from some more “backward” geographical areas we in the U.K. are now living in a very atomised society lacking the bonds of kinship and extended family support. This has led to the disappearance of anything resembling a shared ethos, or values of the sort that were commonly taken for granted. We’re all cast adrift on the stormy seas of life in our little individual canoes without any navigational aids. The representatives of the churches for the most part are just making esoteric observations on the margins and seem scared to look into the abyss let alone comment on what they see there.

  6. What are we to do when good men are standing back in the face of evil. To allow a free vote on such an issue shows that the leaders of our political parties are morally corrupt. They shed crocodile tears when children are stabbed to death, but not at infanticide . Killing the aged and infirm is the next item on their agenda, what to do after that? Those who voted for this murderous bill would surely be changed if they were compelled to witness what they voted for.
I confess to being a believer in the Gospels and the ten commandments, we are seeing what the world looks like when belief is scorned.

  7. I too agree with every word you have written. Welcome to life in the new age of Humanism. At least Hitler and the Nazi’s disgusting policy (the elimination of those physically disabled and the mentally challenged) never went that far , as he sought his perfect Aryan race. Germany turned a blind eye to it and became complicit in such crimes , and reaped judgement . The UK will be no different !

  8. A great chunk of the Church has largely betrayed common sense and fundamental moral accountability. We rant and rave, for or against sexual freedoms extending beyond traditional marriage. I hold to the bible, and heterosexual marriage or celibacy being legitimate choices. But we have let the unborn down by being silent on a genocide claiming over one human life per second globally. Up on our high horses about gay sex, which is something the Bible does not support, yet ignoring a global genocide-as a result of heterosexual sex leading to abortion. Was formerly ambivalent on abortion. But sight of a 4 month spontaneously miscarried child altered my perspective, and radically changed my perspective…….

  9. Hi David

Whilst I agree that the decision of Parliament is a wicked abomination, part of me is glad they have done it.

They thereby reveal themselves for who they really are

Perhaps Christians and church leaders will now stop the pretence that there can be any compromise with this wicked nation, and speak Gods judgment to it, without sweetening the message

And withdraw any appearance of Christian endorsement from the institutions of the UK……that’s a sham and we should have no part of them.

If we are to be the light, or the salt ….. we have to be clearly separate from this wicked godless society, and make it clear in public that’s how we feel.

I hope all Christians will speak like you, David

  10. Hi David, it certainly is a grievous day in potentially a grievous week as we wait for the outcome of the assisted dying bill. I wonder though whether this kind of response is either accurate or helpful. I’ve seen a few Christian responses that have left me wondering -as well as some very helpful ones including that of CMF. I’ve reflected a little more here https://faithroot.com/2025/06/18/pure-evil-dangers-in-christian-responses-to-the-decriminalisation-of-abortion-for-mothers/

  11. Hello David ,
Politicians in our land seem oblivious to God’s Commandments and now the killing of unborn infants is to be enshrined in law .
Does this Parliament represent who we are ? If so ; then it is clear that Satan is in completely in charge . Our Country will face God’s judgement .
However we must never forget the power of prayer .
Christians must unite against this evil or perish .
Also in the secular world ; Christians must stand clearly apart from this wickedness.

  12. The bill does not appear to allow for late term abortion in that it does not allow doctors or service providers to offer this service beyond 24 weeks. For a women who undertakes a late term abortion by whatever means (and this won’t be easy), this would be outside the realm of medical provision or guidance (something which will lead to considerable risk), and the spirit of this new law seems to suggest that said women should be treated with healthcare, support and understanding, rather than the criminal justice system. It is perhaps akin to while still being against the use of drugs, treating use and addiction as medical issues rather than crimes.

Canada for example has no national abortion law and abortion is effectively decriminalised up to birth, but according to Wikipedia there is no area of the country that offers elective abortion beyond 24 weeks.

    1. Yes – thats part of the iniquity of it. The same people who said we had to have abortion because of backstreet abortions are now legalising backstreet abortions! It is so disturbing that people actually think this is ok!

  13. I welcome your robust contribution, David. Here in the UK animals have greater legal protection (see https://www.legislation.gov.uk/asp/2024/4/pdfs/asp_20240004_en.pdf)! Murder will not necessarily get you jailed; but it is different in regards to animals, or free speech – in some cases!
Rest assured you are not on your own. I would just add that even abortion is not the unforgivable sin. You also have a pastoral heart, I know! For all that, your tone and content is more measured than I could have mustered.

  14. Well said David.
I would like to add that this law is not only evil but demonic. You touched on this with your reference to Baal and Molech.
There is an undeniable connection between the culture of lies and deceit and death which produces a law like this and the occult. After all It is the pagan gods of old that required the blood of the children of their devotees. And it is no different today. It’s just different gods. And they are real gods(demons) with real power. And tragically the power these demons exert over the UK and its leaders is great. Britain has been deceived by the great deceiver and is in the greatest moral and cultural crisis of our generation.
How should we as Christians respond to this? (As well as a myriad of other troubling moral crises of our nation)?
After being depressed and grieved We should pause and remember that God our saviour is a righteous and Almighty judge, and take comfort in this. All must stand before the judgement seat of God.
