  1. I am very concerned about your commentary re the deaths of children in Gaza. It seems very callous. Do you not think that the situation in Gaza is appalling and should not be happening?
We see death and destruction being meted out daily in this area – whilst the world looks on and does nothing. All to keep a corrupt politician in power. Part of the problem is that the state of international law is very weak so corrupt politicians and groups worldwide exploit this with the resultant misery to innocent people.

    1. There is nothing in my commentary which is callous or suggests that the situation in Gaza is anything other than appalling. I despise the fact that Hamas use civilians and children as shields behind which to fire their rockets. And I loathe the bombardments and the cruel and unnecessary deaths. I also don’t think that cheap, simplistic, political jibes are helpful.

      1. Could you please enlight me as to where I made a cheap simplistic political jibe?

      2. Sure – when you suggested that all this was about saving Netanyahu’s political career. That may be a factor but a) you don’t know that and b) its way more complex…

      3. Interesting – question re response below – do you know things we don’t?

      4. Would you say that this is acceptable behaviour – https://www.theguardian.com/world/2025/may/28/chased-beaten-and-robbed-survivors-describe-israeli-settler-violence-in-west-bank. How would you react if your land was stolen from you in this way? As you know my late husband was a Scots Jew. He went over to Israel to see if we could relocate. He returned a sad man. He said what was being done to the Arab population in the name of establishing Israel was a travesty and he wanted no part in it – so we stayed in Scotland – near your city of Dundee. Jimmy foresaw the current situation and asked me before he passed to ensure that everyone knew the reality of the roots of the Middle East conflict. He was so sad that even in its early days Israel was not happy with its lot and wanted more at the expense of its neighbours – all that has happened since has proved him right.

      5. So you now withdraw the complaint that I don’t care about the children dying? Thanks…Dont be so quick to judge and read everything through the lens of your political prejudices…

I have no idea who your late husband was. His story is interesting……

You are right about the land being stolen. He used to belong to the Jews until the imperialist colonialists of the Roman Empire took it over and renamed it Palestine – an area which included current Jordan and Syria….in more recent years Syrian Arabs threw out the indigenous inhabitants. In the modern world the Jews decided to return to their homeland (aided by the British) because of their treatment in Europe. I wonder why? Meanwhile the surrounding countries have three times tried to destroy Israel – they are surrounded by 250 million people who want them dead …..and a Western elite who think they are Nazis….I’m not sure how I would react- especially if 1300 of my men, women and children had been slaughtered by those whose aim is just to kill Jews….but I suspect I would want my government to get rid of them. What would you want?

  2. Hi David,
As a fellow Scot (who lives in England) I am really saddened by the present state of the Church Of Scotland. Was reading an article in the Spectator which highlighted the amount of realestate for sale , including prominent historical church buildings.
But before the fire sale began, the truth had already been sold off and replaced with ‘progressive’ liberalism. Ichabod indeed.
Whislt sitting on a bench on Brighton Beach with my wife we were brought to silence as we contemplated this song by Graham Kendrick as it played on my phone. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xfv9OI59_7o

I really hope that Scotland will see revival,
