  1. G’day David

Contrary to your assertions on the power failure being due to the inadequacies of natural power source technology it would now appear that the failure was due to adverse electrical activity caused in part by climate change. These changes in electrical activity are a source of concern relating to climate changes themselves

    1. Sorry Lee Ann – I know that one can scour the internet to find whatever one wants to find. But your information is wrong (and unsourced). This was not caused by climate change (strange how every event no matter what is a result of climate change). I gave you the article which talks about the weakness of inverters….Here is another summary of the current situation “The cause of the massive power outage in Spain and Portugal on April 28, 2025, remains under investigation, with no definitive conclusion yet. However, available information points to a sequence of events involving grid instability. Spanish grid operator Red Eléctrica reported two significant “disconnection events” akin to loss of power generation, likely from solar plants in southwestern Spain. The second event, occurring shortly after the grid stabilized from the first, led to a massive loss of power—around 15 gigawatts, or 60% of Spain’s demand—within seconds. This caused a breakdown in the interconnection with France, triggering a collapse of the Iberian electricity network.

Initial theories included a “rare atmospheric phenomenon” causing oscillations in high-voltage lines, but Portugal’s grid operator REN later denied attributing the outage to this. A fire in southern France damaging a power line was also suggested but dismissed by French operator RTE. Cyberattacks were considered, but both Spanish and Portuguese authorities, along with the European Council, found no evidence to support this.

Speculation about Spain’s high reliance on renewable energy (59% solar and 12% wind at the time) has been largely dismissed by experts. The grid’s lack of sufficient inertia—due to renewables’ reliance on electronic inverters rather than mechanical turbines—may have exacerbated instability, but it’s not considered the primary cause. Experts note that such blackouts can result from various factors, including equipment failures or frequency imbalances, and are not unique to renewable-heavy grids.

Investigations by Spanish and Portuguese governments, the EU, and Spain’s High Court continue, with a focus on grid resilience and interconnection

  2. Sorry pressed enter too soon

#and their effects on national power systems – whether the national electrical power systems are running on traditional or alternative energy sources.

  3. Many thanks for your podcasts David. You always provide food for thought and I appreciate your commitment to the gospel.

I have a question which has been exercising me for the last few weeks. With regards to the necessity of believing in the Trinity to be a Christian, how would you respond to Oneness Pentecostals . I ask because I recently had occasion to interact with a retired pastor and his wife who are OPs. They do not deny the deity of Jesus, but rather are modalists. God is one person and is revealed as Father, Son and Spirit. I would struggle to categorize them as heretics or as not being saved. Certainly they are in error IMO. What would you say?

    Thanks
    Paul

    1. I think people can be in error and be saved…the pastor you refer to is a heretic but he could also be a genuine believer….only the Lord knows….

      1. Thanks. I have always struggled to apply then word heretic to those who genuinely appear to have and continue to experience the grace and blessing of God. I am not really sure why.

        Paul

  4. Hi David,
    Thanks again for another episode,
Could you please provide the link for the article regarding the URC and the UK Court ruling, as I am having trouble finding it on Aquila Report?
I was quite shocked to hear what you reported about the URC when it comes to this matter, as they are normally unwavering on these issues. For example, it was a URC minister who wrote this: https://heidelblog.net/2023/06/a-catechism-on-human-sexuality/
    Thanks and kind regards

    1. Derk – the URC is the United Reformed Church in the UK – they are always wavering! This is what I read in Premier “The United Reformed Church (URC) has expressed dconcern over the UK Supreme Court’s recent ruling defining the legal term “woman” strictly in terms of biological sex.
The denomination said the decision risks further marginalising transgender, intersex, and non-binary individuals who they say already face significant social misunderstanding and exclusion.
In a statement issued today, the URC reaffirmed its belief in the “worth and dignity of all human beings as created in the image of God, regardless of their sex or gender”.
The Church acknowledged the complexities of protecting individual rights in a diverse society, but lamented that the court’s ruling could negatively affect vulnerable communities.
“We strive to be a place of inclusion, safety, and genuine welcome for all,” the statement read. “We acknowledge that we are imperfect, but remain committed to following the example of Jesus, who uplifted the marginalised and challenged the powerful.”

  5. Thank you David for acknowledging the sad direction we are heading in Canada. Challenging times ahead for us, especially for the church, as ‘net zero’ Carney and the liberals have made clear how they feel about Christians. Unchecked antisemitism continues to surge. Alberta (a province rich in oil and gas) is also now seriously talking of independence. Stay tuned. Even so, with hard times ahead, we rest in knowing that the Lord reigns. Psalm 121:2 “My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.”

  6. How I look forward to the download of each Quantum episode. When I heard the intro with Stones music, I immediately thought of the current episode The Rest is History I had just listened to. As a rebellious 60’s California kid I much preferred Stones over Beatles.
Thank you Pastor David for this podcast that brings our faith in context all over the globe.
I appreciate the ending music, as I usually am doing yard chores and sing along out loud and raise my hands in praise to the LORD! 10,000 reasons !
PS. More bagpipes please? My first live hearing as a child , they seemed slightly frightening but alive with breath! Just love them in all kinds of music.

  7. Thanks for the clarificaiton, that its the URC in the UK (not US) who made this statement. Makes sense now as well, as URC in North America wouldn’t comment on a ruling made in another country. I also now have learnt there is a URC in the UK 🙂

  8. Really enjoyed the Rollin’ Stones (LOL) Rest is History podcast. Thank you for the recommendation.
