  1. G’day David.

I’ve listened to this podcast and I am baffled by it. For a theologian and a politician I would have thought you would have followed up things s bit more factually. A few examples:

Mr Musk spent a lot of money trying to bribe voters. This is a huge difference from supporting a candidate.

Mr Saunders is an Independent senator not a Democrat.

You say Mohammed is responsible for many deaths. Is Christianity not responsible for many deaths also? The key problem in both cases being misinterpretation through the ignorance of man causing deaths

The Council of the City of Cardiff has an equality plan – https://www.cardiff.gov.uk/ENG/Your-Council/Strategies-plans-and-policies/Equality-diversity-and-inclusion/Strategic-Equality-Plan-and-Policies/Documents/Easy%20read%20-%20Equality,%20diversity%20and%20inclusion%20strategy%202024%20to%202028.pdf Under this I’m pretty sure they would sponsor a poster/ banner relating to Christianity. It would be interesting for you or your correspondents to contact them on this subject. You cannot just blindly state they have not done so – if no one has asked

It is very easy these days for any criticism of Israel to be branded antisemitism. Given what has gone on in Palestine both historically and contemporaneously the picture Mr Murray paints is a severely distorted one. Also there are many huge contradictory things going on in the life of the character “Mr Murray”.

Linking back to your comments on Islam. The Islam we see today is not the liberal Islam that existed when Europe was scrambling around in the Dark Ages ( if indeed this period existed).

Finally it is interesting the contradictions inherent in your thesis. J D Vance was recently very vocal in his support of democracy and free speech – however we see the exact opposite occuring in the USA where both are under severe threat from the very politicians espousing them.

Your columns should deal with facts not opinions dressed up as facts.

    1. I can understand why you are baffled…you ask for facts not opinions and then give me a series of opinions based on your political prejudices rather than any facts.

      1) You say that Musk spent money trying to ‘bribe’ voters. There is no factual evidence for that whatsoever. During the US presidential election the Democrats spent almost twice the amount of money of the Republicans….was that bribery? Or is it only bribery when it is your political opponents who are the beneficiaries?

      2) Bernie Sanders is a member of the Democratic Party in the United States. He has served as a U.S. Senator from Vermont since 2007 and has run for president in the Democratic primaries in both 2016 and 2020. However, it’s worth noting that Sanders identifies as a democratic socialist and has historically operated as an independent in the Senate, caucusing with the Democrats.

      3) Could you let us know out of your extensive knowledge of Islam and Mohammed, just where Islamists are being ignorant of their own religion? Did Jesus advocate the spread of Christianity by violence? Did Muhammed advocate the spread of Islam through violence? Once you answer these basic questions you are beginning to understand.

      4) How little you understand of equality and diversity! It means precisely the opposite. In the name of equality councils will oppose public displays of Christianity and approve public displays of Christianity. This banner was from the Council…and yes my correspondents have contacted them…and have of course been refused. Feel free to share with us Councils in the UK urging us to believe in Jesus.

      5) Given that you have so little knowledge of what is going in Palestine historically (ie. that it was a colony of the Roman Empire) I’m not sure you should be making such sweeping statements without any evidence. Murray provides his – where is your justification for Hamas?

6). Again out of your expertise on Islam can you tell us what this ‘liberal’ Islam was? Did it abandon the teachings of death for apostasy? Permission for polygamy and to beat your wife?

7). Where is democracy under threat in the US? Who is going to ban voting or free speech? This – like the rest of your claims – is full of internet memes – but with no facts.

Try again…and this time stick to one subject and provide some evidence…lets go with the easy one – tell us about this ‘liberal’ Islam in the Middle Ages.

  2. Hi David
I was really disappointed to read a very silly letter in Evangelicals Now trying to justify the SNP’s disgraceful position on abortion buffer zones.
Being fair-minded is one thing, but doing the SNP’s dirty work for them is simply disgraceful. They are as godless a bunch as you will ever find, and it’s troubling that Christians like Kate Forbes are members.
The idea that politicians could even consider a person’s prayers, privately or otherwise, as a matter for the law is deeply troubling. Even more troubling is the idea that a Christian might take the time to write a letter trying to make the SNP look less horrible than they are.
Praise God for your robust response!
