You are right “catholic” does mean universal.
“apologies for my roman catholic friends” apology accepted. As a child I recall my mother teaching me that I was not a “Roman Catholic” but simply was a Catholic. She contended that the term “Roman Catholic” was a Protestant term to try and justify/rationalise the churches that commenced in the 16th century.
When did the term “Roman Catholic Church” first come into being?
It is not possible to give an exact year when the Catholic Church began to be called the “Roman Catholic Church,” but it is possible to approximate it. The term originates as an insult created by Anglicans who wished to refer to themselves as Catholic. They thus coined the term “Roman Catholic” to distinguish those in union with Rome from themselves and to create a sense in which they could refer to themselves as Catholics (by attempting to deprive actual Catholics to the right to the term).
I’m confident that the fathers of the Nicean Creed were well and truly aware in 325 (1700 anniversary this year) to which church they were refereing to when theu stated .. “We believe in one, holy, catholic, and apostolic church”. The Church founded by Christ himself. Matthew 16:18!

Babylon Bee strikes again.
Another excellent Quantum, David.., and one or two points worth commenting.., hopefully the destructive fires in Californi-a , as terrible as it was, will be wake up call to the woke-ness and pc of the 9th largest economy in the world..?
In terms of the mostly Pakistani muslim grooming gangs in over 50 towns and cities,.., remember that Zak mohammed was a warlord who chopped peoples heads off, if they did not follow his ideology at the time, especially in his march from mecca to medina., and he took young girls to be his ‘brides’…In UK the young white girls who were fed drugs and alcohol, by these mostly muslim gangs, girls who were also very vulnerable, and as such, extreme advantage was taken of them…
It is also worth noting that the likes of Hungary and Poland, to name only two of many do not permit islam or muslims in their nations, and have not had any terrorist activities by islamic jihadists etc …
I welcome the day when we have open dialogue and debate on islam, which is of course based on flawed ideology, rules and legalism and which of course is not in any way racist, as they and most of the media say.., it is simply a matter if religiousity, where most folks are ignorant & ill informed. It is also good to see young muslims turning away from their legalistic religion these days, and who can blame them..? Mosques have no hierarchy, each being independent, and without any governance, checks or balances…
I speak as someone with muslim friends, and who spent some 5 years in Jeddah, being the main port of entry for folks travelling to mecca…
