  1. Santa has no real power. Can Odin keep Highpoint shopping centre in Melbourne open until 2am on his commemorative day.
More importantly, The Pogues, fair enough. Bob Dylan, maybe. Bach, hardly.
Another year passed with no mention of the Sensational Alex Harvey Band’s Chritmas classic.

  2. hi David, always enjoy Quantum………just thought that this morning when describing anti-semitism and talking about Ireland in particular …….a little bit hurtful……you are correct if talking about the Republic of Ireland but for those of us coming from the country of Northern Ireland then this would be wrong. Many of our young men gave the ultimate sacrifice in both wars and also support the country of Israel. I know it wasnt intended but just wanted to point that out

    1. When I am speaking about Ireland I am speaking about the nation of Ireland – the one that Israel withdrew its ambassador from – not Northern Ireland – which is part of the UK…not need to be hurt!

    2. While there were plenty of brave (southern) Irish volunteers who served under Britain in WW2, and also plenty of Irish back home who were prepared to silently support the Allied effort (e.g. letting downed Allied pilots escape over the border to NI while keeping hold of German ones), as a nation I cannot take the ROI’s claims to any moral high ground seriously. Until the US and USSR got involved, Britain stood alone while ROI refused to join the fight against the closest thing the world has seen to pure evil.

  3. The pope’s call for short sermons is not without precedent. The Sydney Anglicans at their 2016 Synod considered a motion that proposed a maximum 20 minute sermon. Common to both is the identification of listener attention spans.

A Synod attendee posted on Facebook in response to that motion. I reckon that he was on the money. He suggested that it was not the entertainment-dopamine cultural impact on congregants that was the issue, but instead the entertainment-dopamine cultural impact on the preachers – that preachers were too openly distracted by the world’s razzle dazzle to devote themselves satisfactorily to sermons.

  4. Hi David – thanks again for a great podcast. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
On your Syria comments – it reminds me of Iraq . No weapons of mass destruction were ever found. We are being played again by so called journalists and camera crews. And now we are supposed to cheer that a listed terrorist organisation is in charge in Syria! I am praying for the Christian’s in Syria – they will have to leave their homeland or live under Sharia law as second class citizens. I have come to believe that western governments are controlled by evil.
