The chosen and preserved seed was promised to Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, David, Solomon and on to Joseph, the biological father of Jesus, so the people thought…and they were right.
This was God’s promise to his covenant people Israel that Messiah would come from the fruit of David’s loins according to the promise in 2 Sam. 7: 12-14 and the Psalmist himself.
It does not bear thinking that God would change his mind at the last link in the preserved seed, which has to be a male to fulfill the promise.
Mary, the relative of Elizabeth as recorded in Luke’s gospel, was a Levite and not from Judah. She was appointed to bear the promised Saviour. Little wonder she cried out in praise to her God, “ my soul magnifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour “.
