The release from alcohol can be stunning! A testimony I have been reading is by a journalist (deceased) and describes how alcohol dependence placed him in a clinical facility. A frail vicar in his early 90’s shared the same placement and the two started to dialogue. The journalist noted the old man’s peace received from Bible study, decided to open the Gideon at his own bed and came to Luke 11:9. He was convicted and gloriously converted. Frequenters of bars in the locality heard of the news and apparently started to bet on when the new convert would go back to alcohol and bars again: he never did! (1 John 4:4)
