Job 7:7-11 – LIfe seems to go by so quickly – like a weaver’s shuttle…it is just a breath. Why would God notice? What do we matter? We are like the grain of sand – today’s mediation includes the beautiful song – ‘every grain of sand’….

The books of Job and Ecclesiastes have always been my two favourites of the Old Testament as they both deal exquisitely with the meaning and purpose of life. A question that haunts the believer and non-believer alike, whether we care to admit to it or not.
I have found the book of Ecclesiastes particularly effective when witnessing to those committed entirely to the here and now, who rely on the fragile comfort of worldly achievement and reward. That is until the wheels come off and all appears then to be ‘meaningless and a chasing after the wind’ – which is inevitable when trying to seek anything of value beyond God’s design.
Now all has been heard;
here is the conclusion of the matter:
Fear God and keep his commandments,
for this is the duty of all mankind.
For God will bring every deed into judgment,
including every hidden thing,
whether it is good or evil. (Ecclesiastes 12:13-14)
