  1. Elisabeth Elliot wrote two marvellous books about sexual identity: ‘The Mark of a Man’ and ‘Let me be a Woman’. They are hugely unfashionable but worth their weight in gold.

  2. Reading some comments about forgiveness in the light of Charleston:

“It should be argued the people who benefit most from a public offering of forgiveness are those who actually don’t have those moments of deep introspection that cause them to walk away from hatred, abject ignorance and the pervasive tentacles of systemic racism. It lets them off the hook in the same way Dylann Roof’s family, friends and the sick culture he comes from have been let off the hook.” http://www.salon.com/2015/06/27/why_america_needs_to_reject_the_charleston_massacres_dangerous_narrative_of_forgiveness/

“”Everyone’s plea for your soul is proof that they lived in love and their legacies will live in love. So hate won’t win”, a relative of one victim told the suspect… [and from the Roof family] “Words cannot express our shock, grief and disbelief as to what happened that night. We are devastated and saddened by what occurred,” the family wrote. “We have all been touched by the moving words from the victims’ families offering God’s forgiveness and love in the face of such horrible suffering.”” http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-33206084

I think we see here the distinction between the natural in the sense of a belief that practicing forgiveness is letting someone off the hook and the “super” natural with the practice of forgiveness and love. Or what Freud would call the id and the super-ego both wanting attention with the ego being the arbiter between the two.

I find the talk of being welcome at their bible study, to turn to Jesus for repentance for God forgiving and for being forgiving “hate won’t win” “we are the family that love built”, some with distress some angry some speaking calmly incredibly moving, loving and powerful.
