Beauty for Ashes 1 – A New Beginning

This is a big moment for the podcast.    A few months ago Rhema Newcastle (rhemafm.com.au ) approached me to talk about the possibility of doing a show with them.   Initially we were thinking of a separate show but then I suggested that we just develop Quantum of the Wee Flea into a new show called Beauty for Ashes.   This is the first edition….let me know what you think.   I think that Rhema have been brave in letting me do this – I am hoping and praying this will be used by the Lord.     The show will continue to be produced by Peter and I remain responsible for all the content and finance!

This week we look at Trump’s Gaza piece;  Drugs in Estonia; Indoctrination in a Dorset school;  JK Rowling on Changing her mind and God; Senator Clare Chandler and Andy Cody; Country of the Week – Indonesia;   the Ashes; and the Final Word from Isaiah 61 with music from the Who;  the Verve;  Fun Boy Three; Iwan Fals-Bongkar; Ku Nyanyi Haleluya; Booker T and the MGs;  and Hillsong;

Here is the music used in this months podcast on Spotify….

There is one part of the radio show that is not on the podcast – it is a ten minute local section (the idea is that any radio station who takes on the show – can also add their own local section).   Here is the Newcastle one…

  1. Thanks, David. I’m listening to your podcast via Indonesia and so enjoyed your focus country today. The fascinating (and challenging) thing about Indonesia is that on any topic there are three or four levels. Whether it’s the economy, wealth / poverty, religious devoutness, use of technology, sophistication of food etc etc. We have the latest, the greatest, the least, and the worst of everything here all right beside each other.

    Go Bless.

  2. Apologies Reverend responding negatively to your new creation. I was not going to bother however my late husband Jimmy would not be happy if I did not. Perhaps your listeners are unaware of the following. With regard to hostages and prisoner releases they may be shocked to find that a large number of Palestinian detainees are held under spurious legal conditions. Your listeners may also be surprised to hear that large numbers of these detainees are between 16-18, ladies, elderly people and professionals including medical consultants.

    The chant you decry – from the river to the sea rather ironically actually originates with Likud the party of Mr Netanyahu and refers to Israeli expansion into Gaza and the West Bank.

    Perhaps a one state solution is the answer rather than a two state one. The current geographic layout of the area like East and West Pakistan is not working. What is needed is for both sides to recognise the problems, acknowledge them, address them and work on them. This has been done before in South Africa. Your listeners may be interested in a contemporary set of presentations done by the Ask Project eg – https://youtu.be/G4mikYVZnUI?si=hJ3Vn1YsrOettX_6 – where Palestinians and Israelis are quizzed on various aspects of their lives. It is instructive on the cited presentation to note the words “behind fences” and “lives ruled and controlled” and “1948”.

    A one-state solution will not work since in a short time the Palestinians (who reproduce more rapidly) would outnumber Israel. Palestine would become an Islamic state. A more attractive option seems to be a two-nation confederacy – a miniature EU. However, those who have lived in the EU, know it is far from ideal.
