  1. Hello. My late husband was a proud Scottish Jew who fought in the forces. He was extremely pragmatic and believed we are all Jock Tamsons Bairns. One of his bugbears was misinformation about the Holocaust – he felt very strongly about this. He used to get really upset about using statistics as every statistics was a person. The figures are sickening. My point regarding you podcast as Jimmy used to say – there were more than Jews killed – if you look at the figures -https://encyclopedia.ushmm.org/content/en/article/documenting-numbers-of-victims-of-the-holocaust-and-nazi-persecution. No matter which way Ms Rayner phrased things she would have been wrong. If she had mentioned the Jewish figure as part of the estimated total – a lot of the media would have taken this as a slight. A horrible situation – as Jimmy said – showing man’s inhumanity to his fellow man. And it still goes on

  2. Sorry I was so distraught writing the comments earlier I noticed I forgot some of the statistics Jimmy used to quote. Total estimated Holocaust deaths 17 million people, estimated Jewish deaths 6 million people, estimated Soviet deaths – Soviet civilians 4.5 million people, Soviet prisoners of war 3.3 million people, Polish deaths – 1.8 million people and so it goes. Horrible. And sad too that you mentioned all the millions killed in the Congo. When will it ever stop?

  3. Listening to the first few verses of Dylan’s With God on Our Side, it is difficult not to have sympathy for the late Dominic Behan’s reputed spat with him over the provenance of the song. Some have even said that Dominic even claimed the tune for himself.
A difficult listen for the Scottish Presbyterian ear, but Sinead O’Connor’s version of The Patriot Game is testament to the immense talent of that tortured soul.
In a similar vein, the recently deceased Marianne Faithfull’s rendition of the Ballad of Lucy Jordan is in a class of its own.
God uses the most unlikely people to bestow his musical blessings on us.

  4. I don’t think Dale Vince is being hypocritical at all. He wants an end to powerful individuals and corporations being able to undermine democracy, but until then he’ll help the political causes he supports with his money.

    1. He wants to stop wealthy donors giving money to political parties because he thinks it undermines democracy – except when he does it! It is the very definition of hypocrisy!

  5. Placard querying Islam is interesting. How well do ‘The Five Pillars’ stand up to scrutiny? Or do they not look like a progression from the OT and NT religions?
