The Groaning of Creation and the Christian (Romans 8:18-25); I Can’t Believe in …an Eternal God – Praise, Prayers and Preaching from St Peters

In the morning we looked at the incredible passage from Romans 8:18-25 – it was supposed to be verse 27 but we ran out of time…that will wait for next week!

Songs:  I Believe (the Creed); How Great Thou Art; Indescribable;  Ps 107:1-16; Who Has Held the Oceans

Readings: Acts 7:37-53 and Ps 107:1-22

Sermon:  Romans 8:18-27 – The Groaning of Creation and the Groaning of the Christian

Calvin – “that there is no element and no part of the world which, being touched, as it were, with a sense of its present misery, does not intensely hope for a resurrection.”

In the evening we had one of the occasional series on ‘I Can’t Believe….’  This time we looked at the question of the Eternal God.

Songs:  O Praise the Name; We Will Feast in the House of Zion;  Ps 93;  Ascribe Greatness

Reading:  2 Kings 19:1-19

Sermon:  Deuteronomy 32:1-4 – I Can’t Believe In….An Unchangeable, Eternal God

“For our God, Jesus Christ, now that He is with the Father, is all the more revealed in His glory. Christianity is not a thing of silence only but of manifold greatness. “ (Epistle of Ignatius to the Romans, Anti-Nicene Fathers Vol 1 p.75.

In the morning I used these photos to show the beauty of creation – the bottom left is of Portmahomack, the others are from Dundee.

And then we showed these to show the groaning of creation… Haiti after the earthquake and Asia after the Tsunami…

  1. Great preaching on the groaning of the creation – can you please recommend some further reading or theologians on the subject of the earth being destroyed or renewed? It seems to be a very topical subject just now – with several variations on what it means in practice.
