Somewhere Over the Rainbow – Corporate Capitalism, the World Cup and the Sign of a Society Committing Suicide

Please. Stop it.  Enough.   We get the message…over and over and over again.  We can hear you.  We know you are virtuous.   We know you are for equality and diversity.  So please, please, please, can we have some diversity in our corporate culture – and some equality?  Our corporate capitalists and public institutions seems obsessed with only one issue.   (I note the common complaint that people make – why are you/the church so obsessed with this issue?  The answer is that I am not.  I comment on what is happening in our society and the trends in our culture – and right now the fact is that our society seems to becoming even more transfixed with the issue of sexuality – look at the evidence below – just from the past week).

In this past week I note that Sheffield University are going for LGBT only halls- can you imagine the fuss if a University were to announce that it was setting up halls for hetrosexuals only?  But apparently some pigs are more equal than others.

Police rainbowThe police of course are constantly signalling to us how they really care about the most important matters and how good they really are.   It’s always good to draw attention away from real crime, cuts in resources and evade criticism by ensuring that you signal your virtue on the only issue that really matters to contemporary progressives.

Schools of course cannot be left out.  They too must show how diverse and equal they are

Downfield Pupils at their Indoctrination Clas

(in the Orwellian sense of modern progressivism).  After all there are awards to be won in this race to the bottom.   Never mind the fact that 25% of children in Dundee are living in poverty, we can all be proud that Downfield Primary school was the first in Scotland to receive a ‘coveted’ (by whom?) LGBT charter award.   Who cares about the broken homes, the hungry children, the declining NHS, the increased death from drugs, the sexualisation of children through pornography on their mobile phones or the fact that one in five Scots pupils are not functionally literate – at least they can repeat all the right mantra’s about ‘being yourself’.

But the thing that has stood out most in this past week has been the way that the Corporates have been falling themselves in trying to outdo each other in proving how virtuous they really are.

Wagamama =  now have a rainbow on place mats.   And have a ‘rainbow bench’ –

placemat-image

“at wagamama we pride ourselves on diversity, equality + freedom to be you and that’s why we support pride. #makeitrainbow is an initiative we set up in 2017 to show our support to the local london, brighton and manchester lgbt communities, donating profits from steamed bun sales whenever a rainbow was spotted that day.”

The AA joined in the fun –

As did Costas –

Costa Coffee_Rainbow Cup group“GLOW is a group of over 1,000 members that champion equality and inclusion in the workplace, ensuring all employees feel strong and supported in the company, no matter their background or personal preferences. This reflects Costa Coffee’s commitment as an employer that provides equal opportunities and inclusivity to give colleagues courage and pride in who they are. ”  (In passing I wonder if this applies to Christians….would Costa employees be allowed to wear crosses or Jesus loves you t-shirts…will Costa be giving out cups with Scripture verses on them?  If not – why not?)

And you can’t even by sweets without being accosted…

But the final straw for me is the world cup.  Paddy Power are offering £10,000 per goal that Russia score to LGBT charities. In case you are not convinced then Bruce/Caitlyn Jenner will enlighten you with zer profound wisdom…

What will the LGBT charities do with all this money?  They will create more awards and propaganda to ensure that more money comes to them and that anyone who dares to question them is removed from polite society.

The churches of course in large measure just join in.  The Archbishop of Canterbury offered his own reward scheme to Vicky Beeching – An Open Letter to the Evangelical Church about Vicky Beeching and ‘Gay Christianity’

Meanwhile the Church of Scotland proudly boasts that its former moderator (the former evangelical, Angus Morrison) received an honorary doctorate for amongst other things “changing attitudes within the Church to same-sex relationships”.

And Steve Chalke continues to be proud of  his anti-Christian messages, tweeting this weekend.   Screen Shot 2018-07-02 at 11.14.53

The Rainbow has become a symbol of our Regressive anti-Christian culture.  It is everywhere – Our national anthem should be changed to ”

Somewhere over the rainbow
Way up high
There’s a land that I heard of
Once in a lullaby

Even Solas seems to have been bitten with the bug…

Dundee-Conference-Facebook-Event-Header-VA

Except of course Solas was there first – a long time ago.  The sign of the rainbow is not a sign of the exclusive sexual progressive agenda – it is a sign of God’s covenant not to destroy the earth with a flood again.  It is a covenantal sign of a covenant keeping God.  We ain’t handing over a Christian sign to the Regressive anti-Christians.

But the rainbow does not mean that God will not let us destroy ourselves as a society.  When Paul in Romans 1 mentions shameful sexual practices (amongst a range of other sins) he does not say that this will result in the judgement of God ona society – he says it is the judgement of God. When we reject God then the greatest punishment for us is when he gives us what we want – a Godless life and society.  So in a perverse postmodern kind of way, our society has turned the symbol of God’s covenant mercy into a symbol of the judgement that God has given us over to – by just letting us ‘be ourselves’.  There can be no worse or destructive judgement for humanity.  Lord, have mercy.

Rom. 1:18    The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, 19 since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20 For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.   For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles. Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. 25 They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.

PS.  For what its worth – my own small ‘rage against the machine’ is that I have ripped up my Costa card.  They and Wagamamas, the AA and Skittles have joined Paddy Power and the C of S in no longer being recipients of my meagre resources!

PPS.  Just after posting this one of you readers asked me about the Scottish Parliament….of course.  I apologise.  How could I forget that organisation which is always in the Premier League of Virtue Signallers?   So here are our brave MSPs, boldly wearing their rainbow ties…(strangely I have no recollection of them making such bold displays when welcoming the Chinese….but maybe my memory is defective?)..

  1. “Stopit… I get it… you Believe that 2+2=4… why do you have to keep pushing my face in it? This is persecution…” Lol

  2. Word on the street is that the English transgender “consultation” is due to open tomorrow, Tuesday 3rd. What a co-incidence that the London Gay Pride march is next Saturday. And what an ideal time to launch a “consultation” into such a complex and tendentious issue just at the start of the summer holiday when we will all, likely, have our minds diverted to more pleasurable matters other than State-sanctioned child abuse.

I am already composing my next letter to the GMC to try to get them to put some lead in their pencil and make a sensible response from a medical perspective.

  3. Psalm 94: 1-3
The Lord is a God who avenges.
O God who avenges, shine forth.
    Rise up, Judge of the earth;
pay back to the proud what they deserve.
How long, Lord, will the wicked,
how long will the wicked be jubilant?

  4. I protested about my money being spent on this by the AA. I have not even had the courtesy of a reply. I shall be leaving them for a company that spends its money on serving all its customers. I shall also stop buying Skittles and other Mars products. I expect I shall end up healthier, and therefore around to poke their consciences for longer….

  5. Loving the idea of a ‘boycott’ list. My own employer (an Edinburgh HQd financial services company) is constantly highlighting so-called equality/diversity etc etc but never in respect of Christians …

  6. Your insight on the changed nature of the rainbow symbol is so important. I’ve been getting a little nauseous at the ubiquitous rainbows, but you have really given me the meaning as to why.

  7. God created the rainbow and it belongs to Him. God’s rainbow has seven colors. Interestingly, according to Strong’s Dictionary, even the word “rainbow” has seven letters (qesheth). God’s rainbow represents His goodness, His mercy and grace, His love and long suffering, and, most of all, it is a reminder that His promises are true and faithful. The true rainbow will never represent, nor can it ever celebrate, any sinful behavior.

I hope you’ll never look at the LGBT flag in the same way again. It is NOT a rainbow flag, falling short with only six colors. And it certainly does not represent God’s rainbow. The LGBT community uses a multi-colored flag that falls short in every way….especially in what it represents.

    1. I like this Peter Turner! A good positive message! I didn’t even realize it wasn’t a real rainbow. It is just a stripey flag! Now there is an opportunity to properly educate children !! Time to claim back the rainbow. The real rainbow!
Genesis 9:12&13 “And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come: I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth.”

    2. The stripey flag (that’s going to stick now!) seems to have varied quite a lot. Turquoise, indigo, hot pink, brown (ethnicity), black (AIDS deaths) and white (peace) have all made appearances. The rejected pink and indigo stood for sexuality and harmony. Interesting also.

There seems a shift to associate it with pride more generally, for example the Facebook starry eyed emoticon. Maybe because it is a real equal opportunity sin affecting 99.9% of mankind…

I came across this today, about one of the penguins on the Maggie’s trail, designed by a primary 5 pupil:

“The rainbow coloured background from his design was to show his pride in welcoming Scottish people. “I am most proud of Scottish people. We welcome anyone no matter who they love or what the (sic) believe”.

Does he understand you can welcome people without agreeing with them? Does he have any clue what happens to people who question the unquestioning acceptance of any relationship or belief? I doubt it.

  8. I’m not given to indulge in Revelation conspiracy theories – it keeps coming to mind that the rainbow is becoming the modern mark by which people will be able to buy and sell.

I ditched Skittles some time ago, the artificial colours and flavours were enough reason – permissible perhaps but not altogether beneficial. The occasional Innocent smoothie was punted as well, it’s a gey dear wey to eat liquidised fruit you can make yourself at home anyway. I dare say that in a lot of these cases, we can count our losses as pure gain!

Smirnoff ad on TV: “labels are for bottles”. That memo clearly hasn’t filtered through to campaign HQ when they continuously add to them.

Scottish Parliament/politics generally: rapidly coming to a point where there is no-one worth voting for. Not fit for purpose.

  9. You should have included the BBC in your article. The Victoria Derbyshire Show screened this morning was pure trans propaganda without a single voice of concern or dissent.

  10. Revelation 10:1-3 “Then I saw another mighty angel coming down from heaven. He was robed in a cloud, with a rainbow above his head; his face was like the sun, and his legs were like fiery pillars. He was holding a little scroll, which lay open in his hand. He planted his right foot on the sea and his left foot on the land, and he gave a loud shout like the roar of a lion.”

  11. You usually accuse liberals of being “snowflakes” but then go and post an article in which you and the above commenters express great distress at the sight of rainbows…

    1. I am not expressing any distress (never mind ‘great’ at the sight of rainbows! Maybe read the article…and if you have – take some lessons in comprehension and logic?

      1. Indeed David,
Why would you be distressed, as you pointed out previously that under Romans 1, what is happening is part of God’s judgment? Certainly, it is not part of God’s favour or blessing , nor the evangel of Jesus Christ.
Except, prophetic, distress and lament over God’s judgment and the blind darkness and hardness of heart wrapped in vibrant colour, a distress weeping throughout scripture, as prayed and pleaded by Moses and Christ Jesus from the Cross.

  12. There was a report in yesterday’s Mail on Sunday, on the relatively high percentage of LGBTI employees at the BBC from their own internal survey.

  13. The sign of the rainbow … is a sign of God’s covenant not to destroy the earth with a flood again.

And how like the Opposition to take such a symbol and twists its meaning.

  14. I’m constantly bemused by the way the Government seems oblivious to that oxymoron “Equalities”. Either Everyone is Equal (and the law is blind to our human characteristics), or the law is biased. Having a Minister for Equalities, rather than “Equality”, gives the game away – the objective is not “Equality for Everyone”!

The Rights of people with the right characteristics are labelled “Equalities” in order to justify laws that trump the equality of people with the wrong characteristics.

So, for instance, there are now many laws by which, if Person A does or doesnt do something to Person B, whether it is illegal or not depends on the characteristics of Person A and Person B! The Law is no longer Blind; we are not All Equal.

  15. Revelation 10:5-7
“Then the angel I had seen standing on the sea and on the land raised his right hand to heaven. And he swore by him who lives for ever and ever, who created the heavens and all that is in them, the earth and all that is in it, and the sea and all that is in it, and said, “There will be no more delay! But in the days when the seventh angel is about to sound his trumpet, the mystery of God will be accomplished, just as he announced to his servants the prophets.”

  16. Okay, so you have expressed your anger, dismay?
Chastised all and sundry and gone on a b it of a bender, whixch of course toy are perfectly entitled to do.
But I didn’t note any ”solutions” to what you deem another aspect of our faltering society where in your eyes one could be forgiven you believe total collapse is imminant.

So, again; offer at least one practical, workable solution.

      1. If you have to ask such an odd question then surely there is no problem that even requires a solution.
Yet from your numerous ongoing posts on this and similar topics anyone reading along would surely believe that you most definitely feel there are a considerable number of problems.
Are you now saying you actually consider there is no problem?
If so, why all the posts?

      2. blockquote>But the final straw for me is the world cup. Paddy Power are offering £10,000 per goal that Russia score to LGBT charities. In case you are not convinced then Bruce/Caitlyn Jenner will enlighten you with zer profound wisdom…

Why do you have issues with this?

  17. I feel exactly the same David. Last year I contacted the Skipton Building Society about having a float in Gay Pride Leeds. As they are a mutual society they should be guided by their members and not be imposing this ideology. I received a ridiculous reply about them supporting their LGBT staff. So I havin informed them that when my account reaches term I will not be investing with them again. I also wrote to Sainsbury’s and told them I would not be using them as my regular grocery shop and received no reply. The Corporate world has been enmeshed in Gay Pride and it us getting bigger because of their money. Some names I know: Asda, Tesco, Sainsbury’s, John Lewis, Barclays, HSBC. Last year in Nottingham on Pride day my grandson went to use the toilet in McDonalds and was informed by an embarrassed young man that he had better not go in as to men were “getting it on” in there. He was only 9 years old and thankfully with an adult?

  18. So the fundamentalist view is that the rainbow is a symbol that God won’t commit worldwide genocide again, only genocide confined to different parts of the world like earthquakes, tsunamis, famine, drought, etc.
LGBT people have suffered at least 1500 years of hatred, persecution, and suffering at the hands of ‘Christians’ (whether they were really Christians is another matter) for most centuries it was punishable by death to even be gay, so it is not surprising that they are little sensitive about this issues. ‘Christians’ who around the world like the three Republican candidates who debated whether the Biblical law to have gay people executed have nothing to do with Christ, and I wonder how many people who support you on this blog are Christians in any way that Christ would recognize. We are all sinners and we should look to our first sin first and then to the sin of others.
There is plenty of freedom of speech to disagree, there is no blasphemy law as fundamentalist ‘Christians’ imposed on Britain and Europe for centuries. (The blasphemy law was only abolished in the UK in 2008!). The Free Church suffered a lot of persecution itself.

    1. There is a new blasphemy law (they call it ‘hate speech’)….and there is not freedom of speech. You try speaking against the Progressive agenda and see what happens to you!

      1. In Roman times (towards the end, just before they plunged into destruction at the hands of others) it is notable that it was de rigueur to be sexually promiscuous and to be sexually ambivalent. The same pressure was put upon people then, as now, who disagreed with this agenda. I imagine the same excuses were also made for the promulgation of what is clearly NOT in accord with God’s creation.

    2. Steve, if your read Peter Turner’s post above you will see why we have to stop calling it a rainbow flag; it is just a stripey flag. For that I’m relieved.
Secondly, I don’t know the history of the criminalisation of sodomy/homosexual acts and whether this was a ‘sin’ issue or a ‘crime’ issue or a bit of both. But from a Christian perspective, homosexual acts should not have been singled out as punishable by law over other sinful sexual acts. I am sure that the Old Testament doesn’t single out homosexual acts as the only ones that break God’s law and in the New Testament, Jesus said that we sin sexually in our minds and hearts, so we are all guilty of sexual sin.
I think that homosexuals did get persecuted, shamed and punished in the past and for that we should bow our heads in shame. (except for crimes of molestation and rape whether it be same sex or opposite sex). That was wrong. But you cannot pin that injustice on all Christians now any more than I can be angry with an English man for oppressing the Irish or the Scots. I remember clearly in Ireland the ‘queer bashers’ (physical attacks)I knew were irreligious people. They were young privileged middle class men. It was savage prejudice. Occasionally religious folk spoke distastefully about ‘queers’ but mostly borne out of ignorance. Worse still, were ‘unmarried mothers’ who were called ‘fallen women’ and there were no ‘fallen man’ to be seen, ever!
We needed to get to a middle ground on these issues and we have gone way past that.
There is a big difference between accepting that some people prefer the same sex and what they do in private is their own business and what we have now which is an insatiable appetite for affirmation which seeks to change all of society to affirm LBGTQ. That is going too far. God instituted marriage as the joining of one man and one woman. Marriage isn’t easy for anyone and nobody’s marriage is perfect but this is God’s standard and to attack marriage like the way the gay lobbyists have done is wicked. I never had a problem with gay people in the slightest, male or female. The extreme agenda is creating ‘homophobia’ (which is another misnomer because ‘homo’ just means ‘man’ and ‘phobia’ is fear. However it is fear of man that is the problem now because people are afraid to go against the growing tide of popular opinion). But I will not call sin ‘good’ neither in myself nor in anybody else. Furthermore, to use and exploit small children to affirm the perceived rights of the LBGTQ lobbyists is way way too far for me. That is wicked in my book and I will oppose it.
I also wonder how many ‘reasonable’ gay people are actually ‘out there’ now! Are there any left or have they all been swept up in the militant group?

  19. This is indeed horrible wickedness.

Let us not forget that we got here by devaluing biblical sexuality first. Romans judgement starts with this in 1:24 before we get to homosexual sin.

Adultery and divorce became commonplace among Christians.

Fornication became OK. Well, we may have tut-tutted. But our kids followed along with the ‘freedom’ of the sexualized culture. Of course this was all normalized in our government education institutions through sex ed.

Shacking up. Well, we need to try things out first don’t we? I don’t know many pastors who won’t call a couple to repentance and chaste and single living before marrying them. It’s a whole lot easier just to make a mockery of marriage before a whole crowd gathered for the event. The message is that God must not care too terribly much. Oh, besides, she’s the elder’s daughter and that would make a nasty knot of things to mess with this.

My suggestion is that we take a few steps back and work at cleaning the garbage out of our own cans while cleaning out others.

    1. Totally agree. We Christians have looked no different from the society around us for decades – same divorces, same adulterous behaviour, same addictions to drink, pornography, etc, etc. So no wonder we are now accused of hypocrisy when we try to (rightly in my view) highlight the current parlours state of society. Too little, too late me thinks!!

      1. Just noticed that the automation has misspelled the word I intended being “parlous” not parlours. Parlous which I intended to say, means “full of danger or uncertainty; precarious” – pretty much our society for us Christians I think.

  20. Have you noticed that the LGBTetc rainbow is an incomplete copy of the real thing? It only has 6 colours, not the seven that we see in the sky as the promise from God.
In this, as in so many other matters that affect our everyday living, the social activists have tried to redefine important concepts, but they can only come up with incomplete copies:- marriage, families, relationships individual identities and so on.
