Baptisms, Prayer, Holiness, a New Song and a (not so good) Farewell Sermon – St Peters March 11th

Last Sunday morning was a special service for me – as I got to baptise my grandson – Finlay as well as Elizabeth – another girl in the congregation…the church was packed…

Here is the morning service:

Songs  – Praise to the Lord, the Almighty; From heaven you Came;  Ps 89:1-6 and 13-18; We Praise God for His Covenant; May the Peace

 Readings: Colossians 1:24-29  Psalm 89:1-18

Sermon: 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 – A Sanctified Church

“Paul, accordingly, knowing that all doctrine is useless until God engraves it, as it were, with his own finger upon our hearts, beseeches God that he would sanctify the Thessalonians.” Calvin

And I preached  my final sermon in St Peters until July (DV)…in the evening.  One of the highlights was the first time we have sung a new version of Psalm 8 from Keith Getty.

Songs – Ps 134 (Ian White – version); Psalm 8; Ps 126; Oh the Deep, Deep Love of Jesus; May the Peace

Reading – 2 Kings

Sermon: 1 Thessalonians 5:25-28 – A Grace Filled Church

Word of warning – I wasn’t going to put this up because the sermon was, to say the least, not good.  I was tired and it was too personal and too many stories…but I leave it up as an example of how NOT to preach…! And I rest in the assurance that the Lord can still use his word to encourage…

Rom. 15:30 I urge you, brothers and sisters, by our Lord Jesus Christ and by the love of the Spirit,  to join me in my struggle by praying to God for me.

This is the blessing we use for infant baptisms:
