The Wee Flea doesn’t do ecology, Unfortunately, but I suspect that in retrospect the biggest story of 2017 may turn out in hindsight to be the publication of a paper showing that there was a 76% decline in flying insect biomass between 1989 and 2016. This study was carried out in protected areas of Germany but reflects what many other s have observed and it reflects also the decline in the populations of many insect-dependent animals such as birds.
The attitude of all too amny Evangelicals in the western world appears to be that humans are set apart from nature. That may be true in some ways but we need food, and good luck with growing any when the pollinators and the organisms that break up the soil and aereate it are all dead.
