Light Engaging Darkness – 1.

This is the first of what I hope will be a weekly round-up of news, views and things I have read – trying to bring the Light of the Gospel to shine on what at times appears to be a very dark world. I read a lot and use a highlighter and Evernote – always with the intention of passing it on at some point. But rarely do. Rather than write about every subject I come across I thought I would share these with those who are interested. Some are just facts I came across – without comment. Others will certainly be commented on – and some will link to more helpful articles. I hope on Saturdays to do a Saturday review of books/films/tv/radio. Here are this weeks offerings.
1) Boots and the Morning After Pill –
The control of the liberal elites is everywhere. Boots were asked about why they did not decrease the price of emergency contraceptives (the morning after pill). They said they would not make them cheaper because they would not want to encourage their use. An eminently sensible position. Cue outrage. 30 Labour MPs immediately demanded they retract and so they have apologized and will rethink their policy. Meanwhile remember this – Since the passing of the Abortion Act 1967 the UK has seen the slaughter of almost 9,000,000 unwanted babies on the altar of sexual freedom, and women’s rights has fed a spirit of death. 2) Champagne Socialism –
77% of Labour party members are in ABC class– up 7%. The old days of Labour being the party of the working class seem to be disappearing. ‘For the many, not the few’ is a soundbite slogan that seems to have its difficulties! What is worrying is the cult like hysteria displayed below:
I found the following quite ironic. In a great example of Champagne Socialism Glastonbury Festival employed 700 workers from as far afield as Spain and Czech to do two weeks paid work cleaning up. 75% were fired after two days – they were on zero-hour contracts. Corbyn and its organizer had appeared together and were applauded for saying that young people should not have to accept low wages and insecurity. A case of do what we say, not what we do. The image of cheap labour from the EU being used to clean up the mess of the UK middle classes at play is a poignant one. Here are some of the costs from Glastonbury. Money speaks.

3) Donating Blood –
After extensive campaigning, now men who have sex with other men , and prostitutes are going to be allowed to donate blood – providing they have abstained for three months (how will the authorities know this?!). Given the clear health risks associated with gay sex it is unbelievable that the rest of us will be put at risk just because of yet another sop to the gay agenda. The BBC on Health
4) The Gender Agenda –
In a race to the bottom both the UK and the Scottish governments have announced that they are going to amend the gender recognition act – to in effect allow someone to change their gender at the stroke of a pen. BBC Report

Adults will be able to change their gender legally without a doctor’s diagnosis under government plans that will transform British society.
Men will be able to identify themselves as women — and women as men — and have their birth certificates altered to record their new gender. Ministers plan to tear up the existing rules that mean people have to live for two years as their desired gender before they can officially change sex.
A consultation on the Gender Recognition Bill, to be published in the autumn, will also include proposals to scrap the requirement that people get a formal medical diagnosis of “gender dysphoria” before applying to switch gender.
Critics warned that allowing people in effect to “self-identify” as a member of the opposite sex, while maintaining the anatomy of their birth gender, would unleash a firestorm of legal cases over access to women-only hospital wards, prisons, lavatories, changing rooms and competitive sports.
Justine Greening, the minister for women and equalities, called the move to give more rights to transgender people the third great “step forward” after equality for women and the legalisation of same-sex marriage in 2013.
The announcement is timed to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the partial decriminalisation of homosexuality in 1967. Greening said ministers want to “streamline and demedicalise” gender change to make it easier for people to switch their identity legally.
In future people are expected to be required only to make a statutory declaration that they intend to live in the acquired gender until death — in line with arrangements already adopted in Ireland. The consultation will address whether those whose gender is “non-binary” should also be able to define themselves as “X” on their birth certificates.
A separate consultation in Scotland will go further than England and Wales by recommending that “non-binary” people should be able to define themselves as “X” on passports. It will also propose a cut in the age at which people can change their gender from 18 to 16.
The plans will be controversial. Prominent feminists including Germaine Greer and Dame Jenni Murray, the presenter of Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour, have questioned whether men can become women even if they undergo a sex-change operation.
Stephanie Davies-Arai of Transgender Trend, a parents’ group, said: “This has huge implications for women. There will be legal cases. The most worrying thing is if any man can identify as a woman with no tests and gain access to spaces where women might be getting undressed or feel vulnerable — like women’s hospital wards, refuges and rape crisis centres — women will just stop going to these facilities.”
Self-identifying was recommended by a parliamentary committee last year chaired by the former cabinet minister Maria Miller and it has the backing of Theresa May and Jeremy Corbyn.
Greening also announced the government will make it easier for gay men to give blood. At the moment men who have had sexual contact with other men are barred from donating for 12 months. That will be reduced to three months.
The harm this will do to children and the disruption it will cause to the NHS, women’s sport, prisons, the education system is incalculable. But the LGBT lobby is so powerful and well organised and the Tories and the SNP (as well as the other parties) are all too scared to stand up to their intimidation or to dumb to work out what they are actually doing, that is will just sail through. Who is going to speak up?
What is the Church going to do about all this? I suspect all the mainstream churches, who are little more than the spiritual wing of the liberal progressives will meekly go along with – or indeed push it – if the latest C of E Synod was anything to do by. Bishop Christopher Cocksworth, Bishop of Coventry and
son-in-law of Bishop David & Mary Pytches, was the only Bishop to vote against the transgender issue at the latest CofE General Synod. Sadly, no Bishop spoke out, not even to say they were worried or would give it some thought.
5) The Extremism Agenda.
Rod Liddle has a superb article in the Spectator on how the liberals will use the governments attempts to control Islamic extremism in order to attack Christianity – this quote should be shared widely!

When there is not the remotest comparison between them.”

It isn’t “contraception”, and you we really shouldn’t get into the habit of calling it contraception. If it was, there wouldn’t be any fuss about it.
I went to court in a bid to stop the toxic Gender Recognition Act being implemented. It makes HM the queen an accomplice to gender fraud. Gender fraud is an unspeakably wicked deceit.
Should a bloke be allowed to know if his “girlfriend” (or “bride”) is also a bloke?

Thanks David. Boots’ initial praiseworthy stance was obviously at odds with the Pharmaceutical Society’s thought police requiring all pharmacists to prescribe all abortion medications and artefacts, including the morning after pill, against their conscience, at the risk of losing their jobs despite the clear responses against the proposed changes in their recent consultation. Boots has now had to capitulate to the overwhelming pressure of the politically correct metro elite. Pray for Christian pharmists. Lord, please shine some light into the ever growing darkness enveloping our sad and sick Western society.
An interesting idea.
1. 9,000,000 does sound a lot. Mind you, only 30% of conceptions result in a pregnancy that the woman knows about. If you arent a fan of the morning after pill then you should probably also question whoever designed the female body to be so bad at getting pregnant. If a soul/life starts at conception then who is the voice of justice for those lost “babies”.
2. Interesting point. Poor people cant save? Odd. Labour has been an ABC party for a long time. Whilst the % is higher than I thought I am intrigued by the the idea that ABCs cant demonstrate a policy concern for those who are not the same as them. Is that not what you think is a key part of your role? If ABCs cant be concern for those not like them, why are you so exercised by non-Chritisan who love people the same sex they are.
3. You ask how the authorities will know this. Its a good question. Being married to a women from the continent of Africa means I may have not been entirely truthful when I last gave blood (Question 50 I think). The question is why do you think people unlike you are liars (any more than the general population)?
4. I am beginning to err on the side of caution on this topic. I still think that people should be allowed to be what they perceive themselves to be but think that women also have a right to be with and like women themselves. The Cotton Ceiling is a fairly horrendous thing. And whilst you comment about Brexit & Religion on my Facebook wall you have yet to comment on the posts on this topic.
5. And you may be surprised that I agree with concerns about an extremism commission. But remember, the National Secular Society and the Christian Institute were jointly very much against Extremism Disruption Orders (EDOs). Free speech is important.
On the subject of allowing birth certificates to be altered in retrospect I would comment as a former Registrar of Births in Scotland for 20year that a certificate of birth is a statement of the facts when the person was born. Whether I agree with Gender Change or not doesn’t not mean that I can agree to altering a biological and scientific fact however many years later. Does it also mean that I can change this fact innumerable times, changing my gender from male to female one week then change to transgender the next then perhaps back to male the next.? At very least these changes if allowed to reflect some kind of ‘change’ should an added reference to any certificate which still allows others to know the original elements of the document.
The image that comes into my head about this Orwellian proposal where everybody has to recognise the ‘truth’ of the claim to being no longer the biological sex you were born with, including recognising the validity of a new birth certificate is that of Galileo before the Pope ”agreeing’ that Copernicus got it right about the sun revolving around the earth, with his fingers firmly crossed behind his back!
The morning after pill works like other forms of hormonal contraception in that it prevents ovulation. How does this relate to abortion?
It doesn’t just work by preventing ovulation but works in two other different ways. Ovulation could well have occurred prior to taking the morning after pill, allowing the embryo to become fertilised by active sperm present following intercourse. The pill will also work to prevent implantation of such a fertilised embryo, so the pill has been designed with abortifacient properties.
I don’t think modern research backs up that claim – certainly the first website I found on Google (Princeton University Office of Population Research) cites several studies that suggest that the morning after pill is not effective if taken after ovulation. That is the risk of pregnancy with or without emergency contraception is the same. Depending on where you look and what you read there are hypotheses (and it is difficult for scientists to quantify with any certainty) that most if not all forms of hormone based contraception work in part by preventing implantation of a fertilised egg. I know many Christians who use the pill or implant after they are married, who are apparently willing to take this risk. Why should we demonise women in crisis who use the morning-after-pill?
I’m not sure the social class measures are helpful. A plumber would be counted as ‘working class’ with an average income of £30,000 a year, could be as high as £50,000 in some cities.
An administrator would be counter as ‘middle class’ with an average income of £21,000.
Why should the lower paid person who joins the Labour party be called a “champagne socialist”?
A very interesting and valid point in 2 about the exploitation of foreign workers at Glastonbury. I’m not sure what the social status of party members tells you about those who typically vote for that party. My original home constuency is overwhelmingly working-class or, increasingly, benefit dependent. Labour received over 60% of the vote with Plaid Cymru and the Tories way behind; things have changed, e.g Kensington, but not that much. And I very much doubt that there was ever a time when the majority of Labour members, or members of any party, were not ABC. As a general rule poor people have too little time and too many anxieties to engage in politics. You exhibit a lot of nostalgia for a supposed era when people kept in their proper stations as regards political affiliations. It never existed except as a broad generalisation. I have said before and will again that your points would be a lot more effective if you did not employ daft pejorative journalese slogans such as ‘champagne socialist’. You’ve also used latte socialist (I’m drinking it now, does putting loads of sugar preserve my working-class status?), socialist paradise, the comrades, Nats and cybernats, plus a few more I’m sure. I can’t see any function for these derogatory clichés except to deliberately annoy people and cause a hostile reaction. [Especially as they are all lifted from the right-wing, reactionary, British Nationalist press: The Daily Heil, The Daily Brexpress, The Daily Torygraph and The Scum! That was my first attempt at writing similar cliché-ridden pejorative rubbish – I think I can do better though.]
